Students spend time in ELA and Math performing at 80% or above each week.

Students can use this as their source for ELA focusing on topics such as PAIRED TEXT, but not limited to it. Continue reading fiction and non-fiction articles, too.

LA STATE STANDARDS TO BE COVERED:

LA.5.RL.5.9 - Compare and contrast stories in the same genre (e.g., mysteries and adventure stories) on their approaches to similar themes and topics.

LA.5.RI.5.3 - Explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text.

LA.5.RL.5.10 - By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the high end of the grades 4–5 text complexity band independently and proficiently.

LA.5.L.5.6 - Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, including those that signal contrast, addition, and other logical relationships (e.g., however, although, nevertheless, similarly, moreover, in addition).

Students can read topics such as “The 13 Colonies” and “The French/Indian War”.

SOC.5.5.9.2 - Analyze the differences in the economies of the New England colonies, Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies

SOC.5.5.9.1 -  Describe trade between the Americas, Western Europe, and Western Africa during the colonial period

SOC.5.5.10.1 - Explain the reasons for the French and Indian War and the economic effects of British policy on colonial America
